Eric Stanton<\/strong>
\nEric Stanton (1926-1999) was a pioneering illustrator of fetish art, who believed that every artist should be free to follow his (or her) own muse. And he risked his entire career on this belief, even if it meant living underground in complete obscurity. His association with Steve Ditko, Irving Klaw, Bettie Page, Gene Bilbrew, and other figures of the New York underground of the 1950s and \u201960s, is the stuff of legend.<\/p>\n

Gene Bilbrew<\/strong>
\nEugene \u201cGene\u201d Bilbrew (1923 \u2013 1974) was an African-American vocal group singer, cartoonist, and \u201cbizarre art\u201d pioneer. During his 24-year career as an underground artist, he produced some of the most iconic and subversive fetish art of the 20th century. The Best of Satellite Publishing Co.<\/strong> unveils over 200 pages of artwork by Eric Stanton and Gene Bilbrew\u2014much of it unseen for over six decades. This collection presents the illustrated stories Have Leather\u2026Will Fashion<\/em> (1961), How to Tame a Roommate<\/em> (1961), The Captive<\/em> (1961), and Vixen’s Vendetta<\/em> (1961\/62), alongside Stanton and Bilbrew art from seminal titles such as Hampered Hercules<\/em>, Suzanne’s Punishment School<\/em>, Servant Problems<\/em>, and Bound<\/em> magazine.<\/p>\n

Launched in 1961, Satellite Publishing Co. emerged from the underground world of Times Square bookstores to become a defining force in fetish illustration. This volume captures the explosive two-year collaboration between Stanton and Bilbrew\u2014 two artists whose distinctive styles shaped an entire genre. Despite FBI scrutiny, poor sales, and creative tensions that briefly separated the partners, these works represent a pivotal moment when fetish art transitioned from John Willie’s Bizarre<\/em> magazine toward a bolder, more narrative-driven aesthetic.
