This collection presents the illustrated stories Have Leather…Will Fashion (1961), How to Tame a Roommate (1961), The Captive (1961), and Vixen’s Vendetta (1961/62), alongside Stanton and Bilbrew art from seminal titles such as Hampered Hercules, Suzanne’s Punishment School, Servant Problems, and Bound magazine.

Launched in 1961, Satellite Publishing Co. emerged from the underground world of Times Square bookstores to become a defining force in fetish illustration. This volume captures the explosive two-year collaboration between Stanton and Bilbrew— two artists whose distinctive styles shaped an entire genre. Despite FBI scrutiny, poor sales, and creative tensions that briefly separated the partners, these works represent a pivotal moment when fetish art transitioned from John Willie’s Bizarre magazine toward a bolder, more narrative-driven aesthetic. Preserved here is a testament to a fleeting, audacious moment in underground publishing—frozen in time before the advent of hardcore pornography reshaped the industry forever.

Eric Stanton
Eric Stanton (1926-1999) was a pioneering illustrator of fetish art, who believed that every artist should be free to follow his (or her) own muse. And he risked his entire career on this belief, even if it meant living underground in complete obscurity. His association with Steve Ditko, Irving Klaw, Bettie Page, Gene Bilbrew, and other figures of the New York underground of the 1950s and ’60s, is the stuff of legend.

Gene Bilbrew
Eugene “Gene” Bilbrew (1923 – 1974) was an African-American vocal group singer, cartoonist, and “bizarre art” pioneer. During his 24-year career as an underground artist, he produced some of the most iconic and subversive fetish art of the 20th century. He also has the distinction of being the first black career fetish artist in history.
